In March 2023, Dr. Brockett, Oshish, and Taryn traveled to North Carolina, USA to participate in the Guilford Dialogues: Building Strategies for Educational Opportunity and Inclusion conference. Guilford College hosts the flagship chapter of Every Campus a Refugee (ECAR), an organization that uses campus resources to support the resettlement of refugees. They attended panels on important topics such as EDI in education, the value of partnerships in making progress on educational priorities, and current initiatives that are responding to immigrant, refugee, and undocumented student needs in the United States.

Attending this conference allowed us to meet Dr. Cathryn Bennett, Dr. Sonalini Sapra, and their students who would present their research on ECAR at the Students as Partners conference in the following weeks. Dr. Brockett, Oshish, and Taryn attended one of their lectures to discuss the upcoming conference and engage in a discussion issue of politics, student life, and immigration in the American and Canadian contexts
