In November 2022, Brittany, Oshish, Almas, and Dr. Brockett had the opportunity to travel to the University of Edinburgh to meet with staff members from Edinburgh Global, student leaders, as well as MasterCard Foundation scholarship recipients. ISOW student leaders, joined by Saja virtually, led conversations on various dimensions of higher education in emergencies:

• how universities can respond to humanitarian emergencies by supporting students and academics,
• working effectively with university administration,
• and the importance of student leadership and partnership with their university.

ISOW student leaders also learned about the UK network of the Universities of Sanctuary and the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA).

We are looking forward to applying these lessons to our work at Laurier.
